Ashley Thouret

Hailed as a “bright, agile soprano and outstanding vocal artist” (Opera Now)the young Canadian soprano, Ashley Alleyne Thouret is currently a principle soloist at the Opera house in Dortmund, Germany under the direction of acclaimed director Jens Daniel Herzog and musical director Gabriel Feltz. Among other things Ms. Thouret can be seen and heard there as Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Zdenka (Arabella), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Miceala (Carmen), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), and Violetta (La Traviata).

 

Ms. Thouret made her European debut in Munich at the Gasteig as Anna Kennedy alongside Krassimira Stoyanova in the title role of Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda. Subsequent engagements included debuts as Liu (Turandot) and Nedda (Pagliacci) with the Stuttgart Philharmoniker and Opernfestspiele Heidenheim under the direction of Maestro Marcus Bosch.

 

The young soprano has already had the pleasure to perform a wide cross-section of the lyric soprano repertoire: further career highlights include Mimi (La Boheme), Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte), Anne Truelove (The Rake’s Progress), Adina ( L’Elisir d’amore), and Melisande (Pelleas et Melisande).

 

As a versatile singer also on the concert stage, Ms. Thouret has recently made her debut as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Maestro Bramwell Tovey. Previous years have also brought Ashley to perform the world premiere of ‘De Profundis’ with the Dortmund Philharmoniker, ‘Carmina Burana’ with Philharmonie Südwestfallen, ‘Brahms Requiem’ with the Stuttgarter Choristen, Händel’s ‘Messiah’ with the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra, Barber’s ‘Knoxville Summer of 1915’ with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra, and a returning invitation for various series’ of Gala Concerts with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie.

 

Ashley was also privileged to join the OperVerein Zurich for “Classic Night”, a gala concert hosted by Francisco Araiza presenting up and coming singers from around the globe.

 

Equally versed in song repertoire, Ashley has been presented in recital in Toronto, Philadelphia, Munich, Vienna, Graz, Dortmund, Chautauqua NY, as well as at the world famous garden estate of William Walton “La Mortella”, in Ischia, Italy.

 

Ashley Thouret is a prize winner of the Marcello Giordani Foundation Competition and the Mario Lanza Competition, a finalist of the Competitzione dell’Opera and the Canadian Music Competition, and was selected as laureate for the final rounds of the ARD Competition, Munich and the Belvedere Competition, Vienna. In October 2016, Ashley was presented as the guest soloist for the “Bajazzo Preis”, a Gala celebration of the Theater und Konzertfreunde at the Konzerthaus in Dortmund.

 

Ms. Thouret is a proud graduate of the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where she completed both her Bachelor and Masters degrees in Opera Performance under teacher Marlena Malas and coach Mikael Eliasen.

 

Future guest engagements include debuting both Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Mahler’s 8th “Symphony of a Thousand” (for release on CD) with the Dortmund Philharmoniker as well as returning to the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie to present a virtuosic programme of concert arias by Bach, Handel, Mozart and Mendelssohn.
