The Belgrade Philharmonic is preparing an unusual voyage through a program inspired by the sea, under the baton of conductor Howard Griffiths, at Kolarac Hall on Friday, November 26, at 8:00 p.m. Performing for the first time with the Belgrade Philharmonic will be the star of world podiums and former child prodigy, Chinese violinist, Ziyu He.

At only 18, this young violinist was one of the youngest soloists to make his debut at the Musikverein with the Vienna Philharmonic. His talent is evidenced by the prestigious awards from the Mozart competition in Salzburg and the Yehudi Menuhin competition, and in 2014 he was Eurovision’s Young Musician of the Year. With the Belgrade Philharmonic, Ziyu He will perform a demanding concert, In Memory of an Angel by Alban Berg

Conducted by Howard Griffiths, a dear guest of the Belgrade Philharmonic, the long concert voyage will begin with Mendelssohn’s overture Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage. The work is inspired by Goethe’s verses and talks about sailing in ancient times. Seventy years later, composer Edward Elgar, in his orchestral masterpiece Enigma Variations, quoted the theme of Mendelssohn’s overture to evoke the voyage of one of his friends on a ship to Australia or New Zealand. It is this work that crowns the program of the concert for which tickets are on sale at the Belgrade Philharmonic box-office as well as online from Monday, November 22.
