Alexander Vedernikov, who was the Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Bolshoi Theatre until recently, will direct the third philharmonic rendezvous For Lovers, on Friday, 27 January (Kolarac, 8pm). He will present Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet music Cinderella, as well as the brilliant overture to Verdi’s opera La forza del destino. The romantic topic of the programme will be complemented by pianist Lise de la Salle, with her performance of Chopin’s Piano concerto No. 2.

Alexander Vedernikov’s international reputation has gone from strength to strength over the past decade, which has put him in high demand as a guest conductor. Currently Chief Conductor of the Odense Symphony Orchestra in Denmark, Alexander will make his debut with our orchestra on Friday:

“I am delighted about the collaboration with the Belgrade Philharmonic, which is an excellent orchestra. The pieces we will perform are among the most beautiful examples of music literature with the topic of love. Whether it is touching, contented, sad or tragic – love is an eternal inspiration that inspires us all”, said conductor Vedernikov.

The overture to this concert rendezvous tells the love story between the main characters of Verdi’s opera La forza del Destino – Don Alvaro and Donna Leonora, which ends in a tragedy. On the other hand, Prokofiev’s Cinderella, the composer’s most melodious piece, makes us believe in fairy tale happy endings again. Between the two love stories with different epilogues, we will hear one of the most romantic pieces for piano and orchestra – Chopin’s Piano concerto in F, performed by French pianist Lise de la Salle. This virtuosic concerto, which has been impressing both listeners and performers for generations, will demonstrate the masterful, brilliant piano technique of the young artist.

For Lovers is one of the most popular series in the Belgrade Philharmonic’s season. The topic of love, seen from various perspectives and angles, takes credit for some of the most beautiful pieces of music as a result of this inspiration. The next rendezvous is scheduled for 10 March, under the baton of Adrian Prabava.
