Emily Newton

Praised for her “full voice and striking presence” soprano, Emily Newton, is at home on both the opera and concert stage. In the coming season she will join the ensemble at Staatstheater Nürnberg and return to the role of Anna Nicole, with which she made her European debut. Role debuts next season in Nürnberg include Elsa and Madama Butterfly. Currently she may be seen on stage as Kate in Theater Hagen’s Kiss me, Kate.

Last season she made her debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in the role of Ellen Orford, and also made her house debut in Lisbon’s Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in the same role. After a critically acclaimed debut in Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Anna Nicole in 2013 with Oper Dortmund in the continental premiere of the work, she became a member of the ensemble.  At Theater Dortmund she has expanded her repertoire in a variety of roles including Marschallin, Desdemona, Contessa, Donna Elvira and Rosalinde.

Other complete roles have included Leonore (Fidelio), Elisabetta (Don Carlo), Lady Macbeth, Nedda, Mimi, Fiordiligi, Anna Bolena, Donna Anna, Micäela and Female Chorus (The Rape of Lucretia). She has worked at theaters such as The Metropolitan Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Theater Aachen, Theater Koblenz, Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Opera Saratoga, Opera New Jersey, Opera in the Heights, and Amarillo Opera.

On the concert stage, she will join the Dortmunder Philharmoniker for Mahler’s 8th Symphony in July 2018. Previously has performed the soprano solos in Knoxville:  Summer of 1915, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Debussy’s La Damoiselle Èlue, Beethoven’s Mass in C and 9th Symphony, Brahm’s Requiem, Elijah, The Creation, Mahler’s Zweite Symphonie and Schubert’s Mirjam’s Siegesgesang.

Ms. Newton is from Lake Jackson, USA. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at University of North Texas and continued her studies University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she was awarded a Master of Music as an A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute Fellow.
