24/11/22

On Friday, November 25, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra will welcome its devoted audience with an exotic repertoire dedicated to magical Barcelona, together with conductor Daniel Raiskin, (Kolarac Hall, 8 p.m.). Pianist Andrey Gugnin performs as a soloist in the sensual piece Nights in the Gardens of Spain by Manuel de Falla, and the orchestra will bring the rhythms and colors of Spain with the masterpieces of Turina, Debussy and Ravel.

One of the most popular concerts of the season 22/23 is dedicated to Barcelona, surely the most sought-after destination from the On the Right Track season – a musical journey of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra to cities around the world. The real prelude to the Spanish evening is Fantastic Dances (Danzas fantásticas) by Joaquín Turina, a colorful piece that brings the distinctive melodies and rhythms of Spanish dances.

Andrey Gugnin will then take the audience to the south, with Nights in the Gardens of Spain for piano and orchestra by Manuel de Falla. Just as Andalusia is an example of mixed tradition and diverse cultures, this piece is inspired by the beautiful images of vibrant gardens from the sultan’s palaces, passionate and sensual dances that will be depicted by this universally acclaimed pianist. His technique is considered by the critics as extremely diverse and agile, often in the service of a rich musical imagination, and the Belgrade audience will have the opportunity to enjoy it for the first time.

Together with the conductor Daniel Raiskin, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra continues its musical journey with Debussy’s Iberia, bringing the atmosphere of Spain enriched with colorful arrangement and lively rhythms. The orchestra will illustrate the street atmosphere of a Spanish little town, calming down at dusk only to erupt again in the warm summer night with street musicians and entertainers. Interestingly, these images were pure Debussy’s imagination, as he had never spent more than just a few hours in Spain. This extravagant concert climaxes with Spanish Rhapsody by Maurice Ravel, as one of the most famous works inspired by this beautiful country.
