One of the world’s greatest cellists, Steven Isserlis will star in the second concert of the series For Beginners. Under the baton of his former fellow cellist Heinrich Schiff, who is nowadays an acclaimed conductor, Isserlis will perform the meditative Kol Nidrei, followed by one of the best-known pieces of the violoncello repertoire – P. I. Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations. In the latter part of the programme, we will listen to Symphony No. 5 from the same conductor, one of the most beautiful works ever written in this genre.
