For the first time under the baton of Lio Kuokman, we travel back to 1923. We pay homage to our past chief-conductor Kresimir Baranovic, who led the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra for a whole decade (1951-1961), with the performance of his Symphonic Scherzo. The work premiered back in 1923 in Zagreb, the same year when Jan Sibelius’ Symphony No. 6 had been written. Created only a few years earlier, Edward Elgar’s famous Concerto for Cello and Orchestra is performed by one of the most sought-after cellists of his generation, Nicholas Altstaedt.
