Vuk Wolkov – Popović
Vuk Wolkov Popović is a Serbian & Danish conductor. His most important engagements, thus far, have been the ones with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra as a regular guest conductor. These include many editions of children’s concerts such as: Hello, We Are the Orchestra (Zdravo, mi smo orkestar) in October of 2022, The Animated Philharmonic (Nacrtani orkestar) in March of 2023 and 2024, as well as many editions of the well acclaimed Concerts for Babies, which he conducted during 2022/23, 2023/24, and 2024/25 seasons. Also worth mentioning is his role as assistant conductor to maestro Gabriel Feltz during preparations for a concert performance of Tristan und Isolde by Richard Wagner, with Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra in February of 2025.
Most recently in May of 2025, he debuted with the RTS (Radio Television of Serbia) Symphony Orchestra at the Kolarac Concert Hall, conducting Romeo and Juliet by P.I. Tchaikovsky.
He also collaborated with the Western Balkans Youth Orchestra (WBYO) as assistant conductor on the Western Balkans meet Beethoven – Winter ’24/’25 tour.
An important part of Vuk’s career is his work with the Belgrade Youth Orchestra, which he founded at the beginning of 2022. Together with the BYO, he performed in all of Belgrade’s concert halls, conducting a diverse repertoire of works from Vivaldi, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff to contemporary Serbian composers, as well as, collaborating with other local ensembles such as the Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra, and international ones such as the Tango Jazz Quartet from Argentina.
As a member of the: Opera: Past, Present, Perfect project (co-funded by the EU), which was run by MOTO (Music Opera Theater Organization) he assumed the role of assistant conductor in the preparation of choral parts for Stanislav Binički’s first Serbian opera, At Dawn (Na uranku), as well as the premier of the first Serbian children’s opera The Children’s Room (Dečja soba) by Milenko Živković, premiered at the BEMUS festival in 2021. He would subsequently conduct multiple productions of this opera in 2022.
An invaluable part of Vuk’s musical journey are the masterclasses he attended that were held by Srboljub Dinić and Wolfgang Scheidt (one of the last students of Hans Swarowsky) whom he’d later continue working with privately in Vienna. He also participated in the masterclass of Leonid Grin in addition to attending the Järvi conducting academy at the Pärnu Music Festival in Estonia.
Between 2009 and 2016, he was a member of the Belgrade Voice (Beogradski Glas) choir under the leadership of singer-songwriter and film composer Aleksandra Kovač.
He began studying conducting at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade in 2019, earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the class of Prof. Biljana Radovanović Brkanović.
