Sara Ferrández
Renowned for her warm, effortless and impeccable sound, and her captivating artistry, Sara Ferrández is rapidly establishing herself as one of the foremost violists of her generation.
Sara appears frequently as soloist with leading international orchestras, as well as in recital across the globe. She has recently made debut appearances with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille, Jyväskylä Sinfonia, National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, Real Filharmonía de Galicia, and Orquestra Simfònica de Balears. This 2026-2027 season she will also make her debut with the Danish Philharmonic and the Orquesta Sinfónica del Vallés. Other recent highlights include her collaboration with the Spanish National Symphony Orchestra under Kazuki Yamada, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra with Cristian Măcelaru, the RTVE Symphony Orchestra led by Chloé van Soeterstède, the Impossible Orchestra with Alondra de la Parra, and the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias under Nuno Coelho. From 2022 to 2025, she served as Artistic Partner of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, curating and performing a range of projects over multiple seasons.
A dedicated chamber musician, Ferrández has been featured at the Rheingau Musik Festival, Verbier Festival, Rencontres Musicales d’Évian, Tsinandali Festival, Sion Festival, Bergen International Festival, Festival de Pâques in Aix-en-Provence, Pau Casals International Music Festival, and the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival, collaborating with artists such as Janine Jansen, Beatrice Rana, Renaud Capuçon, Pablo Ferrández, Vilde Frang, Elena Bashkirova, and Pinchas Zukerman, amongst others. She performs regularly with the Mutter’s Virtuosi alongside Anne-Sophie Mutter, and has most recently been part of two of their tours in Europe and the US. Beginning in 2025, she has also joined the Orpheum Foundation in Switzerland.
Born in Madrid to a musical family in 1995, Ferrández began playing the viola at the age of three. At 13, she went on to study at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid with Diemut Poppen, and later on at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin under Tabea Zimmermann, earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. In 2022, she completed her studies with Nobuko Imai at the Kronberg Academy.
Ferrández performs on a 1730 David Tecchler viola and a Nicolas Léonard Tourte bow, generously on loan from Stephan Jansen on behalf of a member of the Stretton Society.
