Strauss and Mahler were undoubtedly the greatest connoisseurs of their time. They go down in history as composers who introduced many innovations and expanded the boundaries of symphonic performance to their limits and even (in Mahler’s case) introduced voice into the symphonic genre. One of the most demanding concertante pieces written for voice and orchestra, Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs will be sung by soprano Dušica Bijelić, who enjoys a remarkable international career, while the task to conquer Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 7 is entrusted to an old friend of our orchestra – Daniel Raiskin.
