Dušan Vilić

Dušan Vilić was born in Belgrade into an artistic family. He was educated in the finest traditions of the Russian and Serbian music schools, which shaped the breadth of his artistic and cultural interests.

He has built a successful professional career in Russia, where he collaborates as both a permanent and guest conductor with numerous distinguished symphony orchestras and opera houses across the country. His concert and theatre repertoire spans a wide range of genres, from Baroque to symphonic jazz, as well as opera and ballet literature. His work is marked by refined musical taste, thoughtful programming, and focused, persuasive interpretations.

During his studies in Serbia, he performed as a violinist, organist, and vocal artist. He is the author of an award-winning choral piece recognized at a competition in Russia. He furthered his training through numerous orchestral masterclasses in Europe’s major musical centres. His artistic development was particularly shaped by consultations he received at the Berlin Philharmonic with the legendary concertmaster Leon Spierer and Simon Bernardini, as well as by attending rehearsals led by Sir Simon Rattle.

He completed his undergraduate and master’s studies in violin in Belgrade, after which he obtained advanced and postgraduate conducting education at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St. Petersburg, under the guidance of the People’s Artist of the USSR, Alexander Sergeyevich Dmitriev. Thanks to the excellence of the Russian conducting school, he developed his own personal style and achieved a full artistic voice.

While still a student, he conducted the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, presenting original thematic programs of Russian, French, and Spanish music, as well as works by Haydn, Mozart, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich. As a resident conductor of the Volgograd Philharmonic, he led more than fifty symphonic programs and also appeared as a solo violinist and organist. He has collaborated with prominent artists such as Boris Andrianov, Nikita Mndoyants, Vadim Teyfikov, Alexei Parshin, Luka Gadeliya, and others.

Since 2023, Dušan Vilić has been engaged as a conductor at the Mariinsky Theatre, both its Vladivostok and St. Petersburg stages. His operatic and ballet repertoire includes works by Tchaikovsky, Donizetti, Bizet, Leoncavallo, Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, Salieri, Planquette, Adam, Glazunov, Shchedrin, Stravinsky, and others, some of which were performed for the first time in local productions. His previous engagements include appearances with the St. Petersburg Opera Theatre, the Volgograd Philharmonic, the St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, and Vladivostok Philharmonics, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Metropolis Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Opera Studio Orchestra of the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, and the Stanislav Binički Orchestra.

Vilić is an active supporter of young talents, conducting gala performances of students from specialized music schools, and serving as a jury member at vocal competitions in collaboration with the Elena Obraztsova Cultural Center for Opera Talents.

This concert will be the first Maestro Vilić’s collaboration with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.
