Bernd Glemser

While still a student of Vitaly Margulis in Freiburg, pianist Bernd Glemser (born in 1962) was appointed Germany’s youngest professor at the Saarbrücken University of Music in 1989. By then, Glemser had already won prizes in numerous competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition. With an exceptionally broad repertoire, from Baroque to modern music, and numerous outstanding CD recordings, this highly accomplished virtuoso has since become one of the world’s leading pianists.

Bernd Glemser has performed with many renowned orchestras, including the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra under conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Riccardo Chailly, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and Franz Welser-Möst. He has performed at the Berlin Philharmonic, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Royal Festival Hall in London, and the Vienna Musikverein. Glemser shares a particularly beautiful and long-standing working relationship with Gabriel Feltz, with whom he shares an unwavering artistic understanding.

More than thirty CD recordings reflect both Glemser’s broad artistic horizons and his focus on the virtuoso works of Franz Liszt, Alexander Scriabin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Sergei Prokofiev. Since 1996, he has held a piano professorship at the Würzburg University of Music. He also shares his knowledge and skills with the younger generation through masterclasses.
