For the first time on the Serbian music scene, on Friday, 13 February, at 8:00 PM, at Kolarac Hall, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra will premiere Schubert’s Winterreise – A Composed Interpretation by Hans Zender, under the baton of Howard Griffiths. The audience can expect a true exclusive and a unique concert performance featuring tenor James Way and a chamber orchestra joined by unusual instruments such as wind and rain machines, a melodica, accordion, saxophone, guitar, and many others.

One of the season’s program highlights, this performance presents Franz Schubert’s Winterreise in Hans Zender’s 1993 composed interpretation. The celebrated song cycle for voice and piano is given new life in a distinctive arrangement for tenor and chamber orchestra, enriched by an array of unconventional instruments. Zender’s version does not alter the fundamental musical essence of Schubert’s cycle; rather, it transforms its sonic palette and dramaturgy, creating an experience that is faithful to the Romantic spirit and at the same time strikingly contemporary in its expressiveness.

The Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra is joined on the stage by young tenor James Way, who is rapidly gaining international recognition for the versatility of his voice and his compelling stage presence. In the capable hands of frequent guest of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Howard Griffiths, audiences will encounter a fresh perspective on Schubert’s masterpiece. The concert will also feature elements of theatrical performance, making it an unusual and immersive musical event.

Tickets are available at the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra’s box office as well as online.
