J. Sibelius:
Nightride and Sunrise
B. Britten:
Four Sea Interludes
R. Strauss:
Alpine Symphony
Crimson, golden, and white dawns — an obsession for many poets throughout history. This same theme has also inspired numerous composers, and this program showcases some of the most beautiful musical tributes to the sunrise.
Sibelius’s Night ride and Sunrise takes us through the dark northern night into the morning light, while Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from the opera Peter Grimes depict seascapes from a calm dawn to a violent storm.
Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony reflects the grandeur of nature’s masterpieces. To perform this monumental work, the orchestra features over 120 musicians, including unique instruments like a wind machine, heckelphone, and glockenspiel.
