Gabriel Feltz and Anna Tsybuleva

Gaspar (Serbian), Gaspard (French), Kaspar (Persian), Gizbar (Hebrew) – the bringer of treasures, treasurer.
The mysterious nocturnal splendor that Gaspard guards so jealously is revealed to us by Anna Tsybuleva. In a rare departure from traditional philharmonic programing, the acclaimed Russian pianist opens the evening with a solo interpretation of Gaspard de la Nuit, one of the most technically demanding pieces in the standard piano repertoire.
Constant’s orchestral version of Gaspard takes us to the other side of the looking glass, in a lavish arrangement that like a kaleidoscope breaks down the original score into countless new and dazzling hues.
Also performed by Tsybuleva, the repertoire reveals a true rarity: Ravel’s celebrated Left Hand Piano Concerto, written for pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who lost his right arm in World War I.
Medea’s Dance of Vengeance by Samuel Barber, brings a fiery crescendo to this program full of musical treasures.
