Luka Lopičić

Luka Lopičić, DMA (1990), earned his doctoral degree in chamber music from the Faculty of Music at the Belgrade University, under the mentorship of prof. Ljudmila Popović. He completed both his master’s and undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Philology and Arts in Kragujevac, in the class of professor Radomir Tomić. He was a recipient of the Serbian Government’s DOSITEJA Fund for Young Talents, and upon graduation, he was named the best student of the music department.

He began his doctoral studies together with his fellow musicians from the accordion trio Assahra, forming the first ensemble in the history of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade composed solely of accordionists. Together, they performed at the 22nd International Review of Composers (2013) – A Step into the Unusual – the first concert in the festival’s history dedicated entirely to new compositions for accordion.

Lopičić has won over thirty awards at national and international competitions. He has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player in prestigious concert halls in Serbia and abroad (Estonia, Norway, Russia, United Arab Emirates, China, Croatia, and more). Among the orchestras he has collaborated with as a soloist and/or member are: the Belgrade Philharmonic, the RTS Symphony Orchestra, the Ljubica Marić Chamber Orchestra, and the Muzikon Chamber Orchestra.

He works closely with contemporary composers and frequently premieres their works. Notable composers he has collaborated with include: Arshia Samsaminia (Iran), Snežana Nešić (Germany), Vladimir Korać, Jug Konstantin Marković, Milica Ilić, Draško Adžić, Zoran Božanić, Ivan Brkljačić, Luka Čubrilo, Matija Anđelković, among others.

The collaboration between composer Vladimir Korać and Luka Lopičić led to the creation of the piece Water for accordion and electronics, the composition which Lopičić premiered and for which Korać received the Stevan Mokranjac Award back in 2014 – a prestigious recognition for the most outstanding composition premiered in the previous year.

Lopičić is also the author of numerous lectures and masterclasses exploring the combination of various acting methods and techniques in the preparation of musical interpretation. This has led to a number of collaborations with several higher education institutions both in Serbia and abroad, including: the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (Tallinn, Estonia), the Academy of Music at the University of East Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska), the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, the Faculty of Philology and Arts in Kragujevac, and others.

Since 2015, he has taken a keen interest in theatre and performance art. He has participated in numerous productions as an actor, musician, and composer. Notable theatre works include: Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, directed by Vito Taufer (Yugoslav Drama Theatre), Razvojni put Bore Šnajdera (The Life and Times of Bora Šnajder) by Aleksandar Popović, directed by Egon Savin (Yugoslav Drama Theatre), M.I.R.A., directed by Andraš Urban (BITEF Theatre), The Florentine Hat by Eugène Labiche, directed by Darjan Mihajlović (Boško Buha Theatre production), The Proposal by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, directed by Marija Barna Lipkovska (Tri Groša Theatre Troupe), Hiccups by Vladimir Zuev, directed by Isidora Goncić (Vuk Theatre production), Departures Terminal by Jelena Paligorić, directed by Tea Puharić (Vuk Theatre production).

Lopičić’s musical versatility extends into popular music genres as well.
