On Friday, 20 February, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra performs under the baton of Moritz Gnann, with the gifted Serbian accordionist Luka Lopičić making his debut as soloist. The concert is scheduled for 8:00 PM, at Kolarac Hall. The vibrant program, inspired by legendary folk heroes, features works by Richard Strauss, Václav Trojan, Béla Bartók, and Zoltán Kodály.
The concert brings the Serbian premiere of the colorful Fairy Tales – Concerto for Accordion and Orchestra by Czech composer Václav Trojan. The piece will be performed by the young Luka Lopičić, awarded artist with more than thirty awards at national and international competitions. On the Serbian music scene, he is known not only for championing new works for accordion, but also for his wide-ranging artistic ventures. An exceptionally versatile musician, Lopičić is equally drawn to theatrical performance and to popular genres, collaborating with bands such as Maika, Zemlja Gruva, and Lollobrigida. Trojan’s composition, rich in melodic inventiveness, humor, and lyricism, offers the soloist an opportunity to showcase not only his musical sensitivity but also his dazzling virtuosity.
Moritz Gnann returns to the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra’s podium with a program centered on beloved folk heroes – Till Eulenspiegel and Háry János – brought to life through the masterful scores of Strauss and Kodály, works that are both audience favorites and concert staples. The performance of the concert suite from Kodály’s comic folk opera will also feature Kálmán Balogh on the cimbalom, an artist with more than one hundred recorded albums and who performs worldwide.
The program, brimming with lush melodies and folkloric color, is further enriched by Bartók’s Hungarian Sketches.
Tickets are available at the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra’s box office as well as online.
