An Evening of Shostakovich at the Belgrade Philharmonic<\/p>\n

Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz will be together again with the Belgrade Philharmonic for the first time in the new season at Kolarac Hall on Friday, October 1, at 8:00 p.m. He is preparing an evening of Shostakovich with cello superstar Johannes Moser.<\/p>\n

An old acquaintance and firm favorite of the Belgrade Philharmonic audience, Canadian-German cellist Johannes Moser, whose family hails from Zemun, will be performing Concerto No. 1<\/em>, among the most difficult cello concerts, which Shostakovich dedicated to Mstislav Rostropovich.<\/p>\n

Moser is one of the world’s leading cellists, winner of many awards, including first prize at the famous Tchaikovsky Competition. He collaborates regularly with top conductors such as maestros Muti, Maazel, Jansons, Gergiev, Mehta, Jurowski, P. J\u00e4rvi, N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin, Dudamel, and with the world’s most famous orchestras.<\/p>\n

The second part of the concert is dedicated to Shostakovich’s brutal Symphony No. 10<\/em> in Feltz’s unique and inspiring interpretation. This work leads directly to the year of Stalin’s death and gives a precise picture of that time. The story of Shostakovich’s constant conflict with the Soviet authorities is very well known and as soon as the news of the dictator’s death reached him the composer’s first move was to write this symphony, which summarizes everything he had to say but also marks a new beginning.<\/p>\n

Concert tickets are available at the Belgrade Philharmonic’s ticket office and also through our online system, and on the evening of the performance on Friday, tickets will be on sale at the Kolarac box-office from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
