The Belgrade Philharmonic, under the direction of Conductor Cristian Mandeal, will perform together with their colleague, contrabassist Filip Savi\u0107, as soloist, at the Kolarac Concert Hall, on Friday, 9 March, at 8:00 p.m. In addition to Mozart’s Serenade and one of the most popular works of music ever, Anton\u00edn Dvo\u0159\u00e1k’s Symphony „From the New World,“ admirers of the double bass will also have a rare opportunity to enjoy listening to this instrument in Vanhal’s „Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra.“<\/p>\n
„Every performance in front of my orchestra, on the stage where I grew up and matured as an orchestra musician, is as momentous and beautiful as a first kiss. On Friday I will bring to mind how I completed my education at the High School for Music in Hamburg with the same composition some ten years ago. Vanhal was part of the program of my final exam. I hope that now I have something more mature and more beautiful to give to the audience at Kolarac Concert Hall,“ said Filip Savic, who, during the 20 years of his career in the Belgrade Philharmonic, from one of the youngest orchestra members, became the principal of the double bass section.<\/p>\n
Filip will also show us what kind of music was played for entertainment – in the 18th century, with Mozart’s Serenata notturno, together with his colleagues as part of a quartet accompanied by the other members of the Philharmonic. The crowning event of the evening will be one of the greatest classical music hits of all time – Dvo\u0159\u00e1k’s Symphony „From the New World,“ the first work this composer wrote in America. A recording of this famous piece was played during Neil Armstrong’s landing on the Moon and can be heard in many motion pictures, including the film „Underground“ by Emir Kusturica. The Philharmonic will be led by Cristian Mandeal instead of the previously announced conductor Michail Jurowski.<\/p>\n
The concert that the Belgrade Philharmonic will hold on Friday is traditionally dedicated to the memory of Prime Minister Zoran Djindji\u0107.
