After Brahms\u2019 famous piano concerto, the orchestral will play Zemlinsky\u2019s The Mermaid.<\/p>\n<p>Serbian pianist <strong>Tamara Stefanovi\u0107<\/strong> performs at the world\u2019s major concert venues including Carnegie Hall New York, Berlin Philharmonie, Suntory Hall Tokyo and London\u2019s Royal Albert and Wigmore Halls. She is known for interpretations of a wide repertoire and, in the concert with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, she will play Brahms\u2019 monumental Piano Concerto No 1.<\/p>\n<p>Composer Alexander Zemlinsky was one of many victims of the femme fatale Alma Schindler (later Mahler). He began working on his most frequently performed work The Mermaid during his great emotional crisis, after Alma left him to marry Gustav Mahler. Inspired by Anderson\u2019s fairy-tale The Mermaid, Zemlinsky composed the piece with an unusual distribution of roles \u2013 he identified himself with the character of the na\u00efve mermaid, while associating Alma with the role of the prince who left the mermaid to marry a princess.<\/p>\n<p>A hundred standing tickets will be available an hour ahead of the concert (from 7pm) at the Kolarac Ticket Office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pianist Tamara Stefanovi\u0107 will appear with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra under Maestro Fabrice Bollon, on Friday, 23 February (Kolarac, 8pm).
