{"id":17321,"date":"2017-10-17T18:04:32","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T17:04:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bgf.rs\/?p=17321\/"},"modified":"2017-10-26T09:36:56","modified_gmt":"2017-10-26T08:36:56","slug":"frankenstein-at-the-philharmonic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bgf.rs\/en\/frankenstein-at-the-philharmonic\/","title":{"rendered":"Frankenstein at the Philharmonic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Famous Austrian composer HK Gruber is presenting his cult piece <em>Frankenstein!! <\/em>as part of the <em>Pandemonium<\/em> \u2013 the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra\u2019s chamber music series, on Thursday 19 October (BPO Hall, 7pm).<\/p>\n<p>One of the most fascinating contemporary music composers will feature as the conductor, soloist and chansonnier, while the Belgrade Philharmonic musicians will play both their regular instruments, as well as toys!<\/p>\n<p><em>Frankenstein!! A pan-demonium for baritone chansonnier and orchestra <\/em>follows children\u2019s, mostly comical rhymes, fashioned into the music that comprises popular and folk elements, as well as the rich tradition of the Viennese cabaret. Beside Frankenstein, the piece also includes references to various other heroes \u2013 Superman, James Bond, Django, Robinson Crusoe, Batman and Robin, whose <em>heroism<\/em> will be illustrated through the use of toy instruments. Horns, sirens, swanee whistles, sand paper, ratchet rattles, toy piano, melodicas etc. make this piece fun to listen and watch:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever picturesque or amusing the visual effect of the toys may be, their primary role is musical rather than playful \u2013 even the howling plastic horses have their motivic\/harmonic function\u201d, HK Gruber explained.<\/p>\n<p>Since its premiere in 1978 under Simon Rattle, this unconventional piece has been performed more than a 1000 times by the world\u2019s leading orchestras and conductors. The Belgrade audience will hear it for the first time.
