On November 22, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz, will perform the monumental <\/span>Symphony No. 5<\/span><\/i> by Gustav Mahler. The Friday night concert starts at 8 PM at the Kolarac Concert Hall.<\/span><\/p>\n

Starting with just one musician and growing to an ensemble of ninety-five on Kolarac stage, Maestro Gabriel Feltz and the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra will bring to life the conductor\u2019s distinctive programming concept. Pianist Daniel Ciobanu, known for his distinctive musical expression and technical brilliance, has performed with prestigious orchestras worldwide. On Friday night, he will make his debut with the Belgrade Philharmonic, opening the evening with captivating works by Franz Liszt. Ciobanu\u2019s entirely solo performance of Liszt\u2019s <\/span>Mephisto Waltz <\/span><\/i>will be joined by the orchestra for the powerful orchestral rendition of Liszt\u2019s <\/span>Totentanz<\/span><\/i> (Dance of Death), a dramatic and virtuosic piece that highlighting the pianist\u2019s versatility.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second half of the program features Mahler\u2019s <\/span>Symphony No. 5<\/span><\/i>, a 70-minute masterpiece that traces a powerful journey from its somber funeral march to a triumphant celebration of life and love. At the heart of this symphony is the legendary love between Gustav Mahler and the enigmatic Alma. The symphony with its most famous movement <\/span>Adagietto, <\/span><\/i>a profoundly personal musical love letter to his muse and wife, was composed during one of the happiest periods of his life. This deeply personal work reflects Mahler\u2019s artistic and personal fulfilment during that time.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Fifth Symphony<\/span><\/i> has left an indelible mark on music history. The <\/span>Adagietto<\/span><\/i> became globally recognized after its moving performance by Leonard Bernstein at Robert Kennedy\u2019s funeral. It also gained widespread recognition as part of Luchino Visconti\u2019s 1971 film <\/span>Death in Venice.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The Belgrade Philharmonic audience\u2019s love for Mahler and his the <\/span>Adagietto<\/span><\/i> is evident from the high demand for tickets and the concert is already a sold-out event.
