Bojan Su\u0111i\u0107<\/strong>\u00a0was born in Belgrade, where he completed his conducting studies at the Faculty of Music in the class of Jovan \u0160ajnovi\u0107. He further refined his craft under the guidance of Ilya Musin in Saint Petersburg and Otmar Suitner in Vienna.<\/p>\n

In 1989, he was the absolute laureate of the Yugoslav Conducting Competition in Zagreb, earning a scholarship from the \u201cLovro von Mata\u010di\u0107\u201d Foundation, which, regrettably, remained unused due to the events that unfolded in the former Yugoslavia.<\/p>\n

He served as Resident (Principal) Conductor of the Royal Opera in Stockholm, Sweden, where over the course of five years he conducted more than 150 performances and guest appearances. Early in his career, he held the position of permanent conductor and subsequently spent nearly two decades as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Choir and Symphony Orchestra of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). During this period, the repertoire of these ensembles was significantly enriched, the number of public performances greatly increased, and collaborations were established with some of the most distinguished artists in the world. Particular emphasis was placed on the cultivation of Serbian musical heritage and contemporary composers, many of whose works were premiered under Maestro Su\u0111i\u0107\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n

He is the former Chief Conductor and General Music Director of the Opera of the National Theatre in Belgrade. He has served as Principal Guest Conductor of the UNIMI Orchestra in Milan, long-standing Guest Conductor of the OFUNAM Orchestra in Mexico City and the Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra, and is the founder and Artistic Director of the Festival Orchestra and Choir \u201cVirtuosi\u201d, which in 2024 evolved into the \u201cSerbian Philharmonic\u201d. Within a short period, \u201cVirtuosi\u201d achieved notable performances both domestically and internationally, including appearances with leading global stars.\u00a0 The ensemble achieved the top ranking (first place) on the annual list of finest concerts selected by the music critics of\u00a0Politika\u2014widely regarded as the oldest and most influential daily newspaper in the Balkans\u2014for both\u00a02023\u00a0and\u00a02024.<\/p>\n

Maestro Su\u0111i\u0107 has conducted all major Serbian ensembles as well as numerous distinguished orchestras abroad (Austria, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Portugal, Croatia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Armenia, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Greece and China).<\/p>\n

He has collaborated with many of the world\u2019s most celebrated artists, including Nigel Kennedy, Pl\u00e1cido Domingo, Maxim Vengerov, Denis Matsuev, Vadim Repin, Angela Gheorghiu, Ivo Pogoreli\u0107, Simon Trp\u010deski, Emmanuel Pahud, Nikolai Lugansky and Mischa Maisky, among others.<\/p>\n

He served three terms as Artistic Director of BEMUS, Serbia\u2019s most prominent classical music festival, and was also Music Selector for the festivals \u201cBar Chronicle\u201d and \u201cBudva City Theatre\u201d.<\/p>\n

In 2005, he was appointed Professor of Conducting at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. For seventeen years, he led the Faculty\u2019s Symphony Orchestra, conducting highly demanding works such as Mahler\u2019s Symphony No. 8, the Requiems of Verdi, Berlioz and Mozart, Shostakovich\u2019s Symphonies Nos. 1 and 5, and numerous symphonies by Mozart, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.<\/p>\n

From 2013 to 2020, he served as Executive Director of the Music Production of RTS. He was President of the Council of the University of Arts and President of the Managing Board of \u201cGuarnerius\u201d.<\/p>\n

He is the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions, including the Gold Medal for Merit of the Republic of Serbia, the Vuk Award, the City of Belgrade Award and the City of Belgrade Award for Youth Creativity, the Annual Award of the Association of Music Artists of Serbia, the \u201cCaptain Mi\u0161a Anastasijevi\u0107\u201d Award, the \u201cGolden Beo\u010dug\u201d, and the Jubilee Award of Budva City Theatre.<\/p>\n

His artistic collaboration with the Belgrade Philharmonic began in 1989 and intensified through notable appearances at BEMUS and a tour of China in 2000, continuing until his appointment as Artistic Director of RTS Music Production in 2005. As a conductor with the Belgrade Philharmonic, Maestro Su\u0111i\u0107 made one of the ensemble\u2019s rare recordings for PGP RTS \u2014 Symphonic Dances by Sergei Rachmaninoff. At the invitation of the Belgrade Philharmonic, he prepared the orchestra for Zubin Mehta\u2019s historic appearance in Belgrade following the political changes of 5 October.<\/p>\n

From 2026, Bojan Su\u0111i\u0107 assumes the position of the acting general manager of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.<\/p>\n
