Water and the coasts of Scotland. Mendelssohn was so in love with this play of the nature that he immortalised it in an overture that gained global popularity. On the other hand, Robert Schumann dedicated his piece to a German river – the Rhine. In this symphony, one can hear the sounds of the Rhine passing close to the Cologne Cathedral.
