Today, we are celebrating virtuosity. Back in the day when it was composed, Tchaikovsky’s concerto was regarded as a piece that was unplayable. Many people today still consider it as such. Rachmaninov’s Symphony No 3 requires every orchestra to push its capabilities to the limit.
