Concert dedicated to the memory of Zoran Đinđić
Between 1809 and 1811 Beethoven was working on his sketches for the opera Macbeth, according to the famous play by Shakespeare. The unfinished overture was reconstructed and performed in the United States in 2001 based on the preserved sketches and this represents his last discovered work. A few years before Macbeth, Beethoven wrote his Symphony No. 2, which completes his early period of creativity. What he bespoke was continued in Romanticism with the works of Robert Schumann. For him, Beethoven was an ideal, a fearsome genius from under whose shadow no future generation of composers was able to escape. With the Belgrade Philharmonic, Schumann’s Cello Concerto will be performed by Kian Soltani. Concluding the concert program will be Schumann’s quasi-symphony: Overture, Scherzo and Finale.
