The work Beethaphase by Jelena Dabić, a Serbian composer living in Germany, was commissioned for the Young Euro Classics festival in Berlin in 2010. At that time it was presented for the first time to the audience in the Berlin Konzerthaus, and the Belgrade Philharmonic performed it for the first time in 2016. In it the thematic material of the Finale of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is combined with the rhythms of the Balkans, shaped by contemporary musical expression, resulting in a mix of different epochs and geographical regions.
Through the performance of two concertos, by Marcello and Vasks, Georgi Gvantseladze, soloist of the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and one of the world’s most promising oboists, will perform a variety of musical styles and cultures. The concert will be rounded off with Symphony No. 5 by Alexander Glazunov, whose final theme is a Serbian folk song.
