03/10/16

The Belgrade Philharmonic’s chamber scene 2016/17 features something completely different – we are launching the Philharmonic Theatre! In five concerts that include reading of famous composers’ letters, the BPO musicians will share the stage with actors Tamara Krcunović and Vladimir Aleksić.

The Belgrade Philharmonic Hall will transform into a theatre stage, with the idea to combine the arts of theatre and music into a single distinctive performance. The Philharmonic Theatre series offers to the listeners, and now also to the viewers, a new perspective on enjoying and understanding the works of great composers. By correlating the composers’ correspondence with the people they were close with, on the one hand, and the music they wrote, on the other, we are creating an intimate new genre – the theatre concert, a new work that combines music and words. The Philharmonic Theatre brings together chamber ensembles and actors and it is dedicated to five composers – Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Schumann and Stravinsky, to their geniuses, dramatic fates or tragic loves.

The concerts of the Philharmonic Theatre series will take place in the intimate ambience of the Belgrade Philharmonic Hall, on Thursdays at 7pm. The first one, dedicated to Mozart’s letters, is scheduled for 27 October, while the next one, on 1 December, to Tchaikovsky’s correspondence. In 2017, Mahler will be played and read on 23 February, Schumann on 13 April and Stravinsky on 25 May.

Ticket sets are available as of 3 October at the Belgrade Philharmonic Box Office (Studentski trg 11), as well as via the online ticket sale system, whereas tickets for individual concerts will be sold from 24 October.
