10/12/16

The Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra’s New Year Concert, traditionally the orchestra’s most popular event, will again this year take place on two dates, 29 and 30 December (Kolarac, 8pm). As an introduction to the romantic festive atmosphere, the BPO will play jazz and Broadway melodies, directed by conductor Fabrice Bollon. The soloist will be the Chinese jazz piano wunderkind A Bu.

The New Year concerts will emulate the style and ambience of America in the first half of the 20th century, when the culture scene was dominated by jazz and Broadway musicals. The programme will include Bernstein’s Divertimento and Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite No 2. The sixteen-year-old jazz musician A Bu will showcase his skills and bring the irresistible jazz rhythms to life in Gershwin’s Concerto in F and I Got Rhythm.

The audience will be able to hear some of the classics of that period, which have gradually become a part of the popular culture, thanks to their attractiveness and quality, and which have found their way into advertisements, films, TV programmes and other modern-day communication channels. The programme of this concert will take us back to another, possibly more beautiful and careless time, and infuse us with romantic and festive feelings of the kind that can be found in old films.

The Philharmonic celebration of the New Year will again be different than before. After the disco philharmonic, the 1960s and 1970s rock and the philharmonic circus, this year’s celebration returns to the traditional concert form.

The tickets, sold at RSD 600, 800 and 1000, will be available as of 12 December at the Belgrade Philharmonic Ticket Office, as well as online.
